Default Mississipi

I am considering sailing from Lake Michigan to the Gulf of Mexico.

I am concerned about hidden costs or well hidden to me. like surprises.

That is cost of stopping overnight is the biggest of all as, i travel with little means.

Anyone could help me with some information ? also i need to know how long it would take to make the trip in a bit of a hurry ?

Thank you.

Gianfranco

We haven't done it, and don't know anyone who has, though it's a popular powerboat cruise. Here are two links that might be of some help to you. Inasmuch as the Mississippi river is 3,780 km long I don't think there is such a thing as making the trip in a hurry. I don't know what anchoring would be like, but remember that the Mississippi is a huge river with an incredible amount of barge traffic going up and down the river. The towns are used to serving the boating traffic, and I would assume (that's why you should get some sort of cruising guide) that like the Hudson River there are plenty of places to anchor along the way. But I don't know. I do not believe that this is a river you want to travel on at night.

and here's a link to a cruising guide for the trip. At USD $18.00 it's cheap. http://www.bluewaterweb.com/CruisingGuides...&SKU=0966220846

Gianfranco,
Something to consider. If you follow the route used by most of the people cruising the Great Loop, it will take you down the Chicago and Illinois Rivers to the Missippi, then a short voyage up the Ohio River to Paducah, KY and the beginning to the Tenn-Tom Waterway segment, which will deposit you into the Gulf Of Mexico near Mobile, AL. You don't mention what type of boat, so be aware that there are some height restrictions on this route. Best of Luck! gts1544
