Default Cruising with kids 2007

We are leaving the UK in June to cruise down to Gibraltar (by September) then across the Atlantic before xmas 2007. We will cruise aboard our 44' steel ketch with our 4 year old daughter and are hoping to make contact with others doing similiar things. Also any advice on long term liveaboard cruising with kids would be appreciated.

Hi Morag, Go to the search facility on the top right hand side of the page and do a search for 'Cruising with children'. There is some info there as well as the names of a few people with similar interests. Welcome to our forum. Best wishes. David.

Hello Morag!

Good luck with your plans!

I would recommend that you visit www.lazyduck.com - its a travel log of a couple, which did a circumnavigation with their 2 young daughters! Great internet site! You also have their contact details in the site!

May the good winds be with you!

Thanks for all the great tips and advice. I look forward to participating in the forum as we carry out our preparation of the boat and finally cast off next spring.

My wife wrote a very successful book about our travels with three sons, 2,6 and 8 years old when we started our circumnavigation from the UK. 'Just Cruising' by Liza Copeland available from Kelvin Hughes in the UK or Amazon in the USA. You will find it useful both for your cruising plans and for enjoying kids on board.

Have fun cruising with your kids, our daughter loves it. You might like to try this site for info. http://www.noonsite.com/General/CruisingFamilies

We are doing exactly the same...also with our 4 year old daughter Beth on our 35' ketch Sea Bright. Maybe it would be good to talk more?

Good Luck

We are planning much the same voyage after we take delivery of a Lagoon 420 catamaran in summer 2007. The intended route on our sailing sabbatical will take us from the UK, to SW Ireland, NW Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar, Morocco, Canaries, Barbados, Tobago, Antigua, Nevis, BVI, Bermuda, Azores, Gibraltar. We will have our 6 (yes six!) children aboard (two boys and four girls, aged 7 to 12). We will be on the look out for other cruising families and would love to exchange details and plans.

Be sure to drop your hook in St Thomas for re-provisioning...and a visit. Best selection in the Caribbean!

Cheers,

Kirk

I came across a single mum circumnavigating with children.
