Default Need suggestions for nautical dog name

Hi,

I just got a wonderful little sailing companion and I need to come up with a brilliant name for his AKC registration. His call name is "Skipper" but that doesn't have to be in the registered name. We are liveaboards and this litle guy will be joining us on many cruises in his life time so we wanted something nautical. He will also be shown in confirmation and trained in agility so his registered name will be used often. His kennel name is Carrington so the name must start with "Carrington's". He's a Border Terrier, a small brown dog that has a head resembling an otter. They are pretty confident and somewhat scrapy little dogs. Here are some of the names I like so far ... Carrington's Cut and Run, Carrington's Touch and Go, Carrington's Shiver Me Timbers, Carrington's Salty Dog, Carrington's Salty Sailor,

Does anyone out there have any suggestions? I would love to hear them. I tried posting this on my Border Terrier forum and I got lots of fun suggestions but mostly from people who only know nautical phrases from movies and song lyrics. Thanks for your help!

Saw this in a sailing magazine the other day:

Sailor's salty sea dog was lovingly and jokingly called "Spare Provisions"!!!

If he were my pooch i would call him (SCUPPERS)

The term is in reference to drain holes that are on the deck or in bulwarks.

Anyway i think it's a cute name.

Thought I had posted this but can't find it.

My choice would be Sirius ... it's the dog star.

See http://www.physics.purdue.edu/astr26...um/Sirius.html

Hi,

I love dogs and I love sailing but, for me, the two just don't work together; but that is just me. Each to his own as they say.

There was a rather famous dog in Simons Town, South Africa called Just Nuisance. Simons Town was the Royal Navy's base near Cape Town and Just Nuisance was a great dane who ended up being enlisted into the Royal Navy. The story is rather interesting and can be found at http://www.simonstown.com/tourism/nuisance/nuisance.htm.

Just Nuisance died towards the end of the second world war and so the name should be available.

I also read recently of a sailing dog named Fluke. Fluke of course is the working part of an anchor but the dog also found his new owners by fluke (chance) when they were berthed in Aberdeen, Hong Kong.

Whichever name you choose, I hope you and the dog have many happy years of cruising together.

Stephen

Oldies but goodies.

Could be 'Carringtons Delta Oscar Golf' - or the shorter 'Carringtons D'for'?
