I'm considering purchasing a Wichard Gyb'Easy Boom Brake for our Moody 419 and am interested to know whether anyone else has had experience with this product. Details at Westmarine web site WM Model#9691312

Go to a mountain climbing store and get a descender "figure 8" with the ears. Works like a boom brake at 1/3 the cost.

Thanks Allegedly,

Managed to find one at around $29 US - here is the picture :-Attached Image

"Designed by the "Wizard of Iron" Denny Moorhouse the designer of the origional figure 8 descender back in 1968. Manufactured in Wales at International Safety Components (formerly the old "Clog" factory). Forged designed for strength and durability. Rescue 8 has "Ears" to aid in "locking off". Hard cote anodized finish. Figure 8 descender will accommodate 10-16mm ropes. Weight: 7oz/196g. Strength: 7875 lbf(35kN)."

Can to tell us how it could be rigged as a boom brake ? Not too sure about the ears - could they be a hazard.

Thanks for the input.

PS . Found a Video instruction (but still trying to work out how to rig on the boom to prevent unplanned gybes) Figure 8 Descender Instruction
