The Icom 710 SSB must have gotten zapped by a nearby lightning pulse. Doing some trouble shooting using the schematics I found a bad 8V regulator. Replaced it but still no luck. Now all the 5 and 8V regulated supplies are running but the unit is still stuck on one channel and in the "I wanna transmit" mode.

The control IC ( proprietary Icom) does have it's clock running but I do not see any data pulses on the output to the main board. ( I thought with the O-scope I'd see some life there) Has anyone a comment/info on this? BTW: this is the front panel pcb and I think all the 700 series like the 700, 710 and ..PRO versions are quite similar, even the detachables and 800 series perhaps might work.

Further, current draw is several amps and the TX lines are energized. After a minute of being switched on the output heatsink fan comes on but I cannot feel any excessive heat pointing to a dead xtor in that part of the circuit, so it may just be normal transmit stand-by current.

Is/are there any spare boards, other fried units out there to buy? I've not yet consulted the mfr. agent and the schematics alone put me back $50. Not only are they a copy and barely readable, with minute labeling ( like a VISA card fine print in shades of grey ) and no block diagram or any trouble tree info or critical test point info in that $50 and I'm almost sure there is no repair manual available either. Or is there?

As ex-ZS1DD and now KI6S I'd hate to have to send it out for repair. It is like "we bust it, we fix it" here but it is not at all beneath me to ask for advice and info.

I'm on the boat in FL right now and getting to a puter is not a daily occurence. So, I might not get back right away but I will do my best.

In a DK website you may be able to download a full workshop manual for the Icom 710 or at least the schematic - Here is a link to the DK mod files :-C L I C K
