$25,000 Cruising Solution

Check out this report in 'Lectronic Latitude, from Latitude38, California's sailing rag about a couple who bought their cruising boat for $25,000. Sounds too good to be true, but they're doing it so there are good boats out there for very good prices!

Thanks for the link. It's always great to see people out enjoying cruising in reasonably priced boats--eh?

That boat sounds wonderful for the family. When we were in So Cal, we did meet many people setting South for Mexico and points further--in wonderful and inexpensive boats--often times the cruising kitty was $25K total.

Smart decisions, good moves, realistic expectations... all lead to good things including cruising NOW and not waiting until the stars have aligned and the "perfect" cruising dream boat and cruising kitty magically "arrives".

I am reminded of the following insight from Henry David Thoreau:

If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams and endeavors to live the life he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.

It seems there are a lot of deals available now if you have cash. It would be a great time to cruise. If you have a little cash and can contrive to be laid off with unemployment benefits, so much the better.

Coyote--good to see you here!

Where are you these days?

Coyote 12-26-2011 06:07 PM

Good Morning, Peep, and Merry Christmas. I'm still in San Jose and will be for a while. My sweet Coyote gets less attention than she deserves, but I will be at Clipper Cove and Angel Island this weekend.

I've been doing more lurking than posting lately due to how busy I am.

Where are you guys now? I think I saw Mahdee on the bay a while back, but I was too far away to be sure.

Sorry to hear you're too busy right now for some good sailing.

We're in Portland this week via car. We should meet up in the SFB area sometime soon! We've been in the SFB area for a bit over 3 months.

Fair winds,

I'd trade a toe for a chance to sail on an old wooded schooner again. Lemme know when you kids are in town and I will do what I can to meet up with you. SFB is certainly a chance to learn a bit of different sailoring from what you get in SD. Here we have tides, wind, shoals, cold, rain. All kinds of things. Fewer dolphins, but more whales.

We spent 4 months sailing our boat in SFB during the summer/fall of 2010--that's what convinced us to come back and stay a while this fall 2011.

Great sailing inside and outside of the SFB. SD sailing--um...it's only good in the winter. Summertime is like the PNW--little wind.
