Hello all my name is Bob and I am 47. Just starting out with cruising or at least trying I`m in a unique position. In two or perhaps three months I will have at least one year I can commit to finding out how much I am suited to the life .I have two main questions. The first is How can I prepare myself in the two months I have to wait? The second is What gear aside from a survival suit will I require to be a properly equipped member of a crew.

I was going to say more but I am going to keep it short.

Welcome to Cruiser Log, Bob

I think that it would help to know a little more about you before our answers will be useful and neither patronizing nor too advanced.

Do you know how to sail? What kind of experience do you have? What kind of cruising do you think that you'd like to do - coastal cruising in North America, or cruising in the tropics as far as, say, the Caribbean? Or further afield than that.

Asking about a survival suit is interpreted by me to mean that your experience is possibly limited. I say that because I don't know more than two people who carried a survivor suit with them.

Anyway, please let us know what you think you don't yet know and we will try to fill in the blanks.

J

Welcome aboard Bob. Good to have you here.

Please give us the info that JeanneP suggests and ask as many questions as you wish.

Ty Jeanne and you are quite right to guess I have no real experience.I have been sailing a few times and loved it.I have always wanted to sail more but it has never been practical or financially possible.Things have changed this last year I have time money and a slightly dusty dream.I am 47 a postal worker and all I have is the desire or need to leave an old life behind.(saying more would be tmi)I may be a little romantic but a life ashore holds no interest for me.It may not be the life for me but I cannot bear the thought of not trying.
