Default VHF License in the Bahamas?

I have heard that in the US there is no requirement for any licensing to operate a VHF radio but to communitcate with a foreign country, you must possess a License. I heard that this would be required for the Bahamas. Is this correct?

If so, what type of license is required and where can I obtain said paperwork?

Yes, you need a license if you will be sailing in international waters (Bahamas qualifies). You can file it on line at:

http://wireless.fcc.gov/uls/

For more radio and communication information you can go to the U.S. Coast Guard site - here's a link for that, too.
