Just a hello and introduction.

I am very new to sailing, and have only been out on the water a few times (which I hope to remedy as soon as I get settled). My wife and I have decided that we want to explore the cruising life for at least one year after retirement, so I am getting started now.

The plan is to learn to sail, do some club racing as crew at my local yacht club, then buy a sailboat in a year or two to begin prepping it for the cruise south upon retirement.

Anyways, thats the short version. I am looking forwards to soaking up as much info as I can from you all

Welcome aboard "Greenman" - good to have you here.

I know that the "at least one year cruising" will very easily turn into 5 or 10 years of happy cruising.

Good luck with your plans and we look forward to hearing all about it.

Another voice welcoming you.

So many options, including part-time cruising - winters in the warm climes, storing your boat for your return to N.S. for the summers there. Many of our Canadian friends have found that to be a good plan.

From my signature you can see that cruising is a way of life for some people.

Hello Greenman!

Sounds like a great plan. Much to learn from racing with a crew. I my self have "gone the way" from landcrab to sailjunkie as crew on different boats. Some Captains are good teachers & some not so try different boats & crew.

Best regards!

Hans

I will be starting to sail in NS to next summer, I'm probably gonna buy a smaller boat for the first few years, then go big when I retire and leave this place every winter!!!

What part of NS are you from? I will be living in Halifax in August and starting the CPS courses this winter (have you heard about those?)

Anyway, good luck, See you on the sea!!
