Default College near a good anchorage or cheap marina?

We are on the boat now.. unfortunately still up in RI... and it's getting cold fast

Hopefully if the weather stays clear offshore we'll punch out for Bermuda in about two weeks (keeping our fingers crossed)

After Bermuda we are headed for the south east coast of the US and plan to winter over somewhere so that the kiddo (only 8 months old) can get his legs under him and I can do some work on the boat that is needed prior to more long-range offshore work.

I've got some GI Bill to burn so we are thinking why not use it while we are sitting still for a season for the extra income ( so we aren't using cruising kitty while not moving).
Anybody know a school on the coast that has marine type classes (outboard repair, diesel repair, etc) that is within walking/biking range of a good anchorage or cheap marina?

the only one I've found so far is Key West Community College... but that's a busier area than I'd really like to be in, too much powerboat traffic and tourism...

All input appreciated.

That's a good idea if you can find one. Wrong coast for us to give you pointers

Hubby used GIB money when getting his MSEE while still in the Navy and then the same with his PhD while still in. Good program. Since he was active duty, he had in-state tuition with the MS, and then the PhD was at a private university so it didn't matter.

The community colleges will have the whole instate and outofstate tuition difference and you'll be burning GIB money (too much) unless there's a clause that lets you have instate tuition for GIB purposes. Are you aware of how it works? Will you get the cheap rate/instate rate?

Good luck!

WyoTech Daytona Campus

It would be a decent bike ride or a bus ride from the ICW (Halifax River). Other then launching and retrieving a trailered power boat in Daytona, I have never moored or lived aboard at a marina there. So I'm no help on that front.

Mike

PS Have a safe trip!
