Default When do folks pass East through the Panama Canal from the Pacific to the Caribbean?

I know going the other way, West, from the Caribbean to the Pacific, most cruisers go through in late December/January. That's a great time to look for crew positions crossing the Pacific.

But, if / when are cruisers going East?

Hi Areaman and welcome to CruiserLog. I have no specific knowledge of your planned route, but I confess it has crossed my mind. My boat is in the Sea of Cortez and it might be nice to whiz across to the Bahamas for a season. Your question prompts me to do a little investigation.
Meanwhile, I am sure there is someone out there with practical knowledge who will post it as time goes on.
Cheers.

Hi Auzzee, thanks for the reply and the welcome.

I guess the whole Canal transit is probably usually timed around the Caribbean hurricane season, June 1st - November 31st.

I'm cashing in my chips, so to speak, in August 2015, and going to see the world. Just kinda started exploring whats out there for crew / delivery gigs near home (East Coast USA) for an experienced sailor to get started on his first leg of the great adventure.

Pacific side of Mexico is on my short list of starting points. Eventually, I need to get over to Laos by the end of 2015 to catch up with a buddy, but I can always fly if I had too.

Anywho...fair winds.

I have recently left Southeast Asia after over three years of motorcycle touring there. Laos is one of my favourite countries. Vientiane is a good city..great food and the development along the Mekong through the city makes it a wonderful place to sit and watch the world pass by. One would never know, from the general tenor of the environment, that it remains a Marxist Communist state. I am sure your friend will tell you this also, but you must go to the old Monarchical capital of Luang Prabang. The place is magical. Best of luck in your travels both on the sea and over it.

Thats awesome!

My buddy is in Luang Prabang. Looking forward to it. Those slow boats have got to be some of the funkiest boats I have ever seem, so long and rectangular.

If I head to Mexico in August, I'll try and find you here on this forum, maybe we could hook up, get a drink, swap sea stories and the like.
