Default UK east- which ports do you recommend?

Hello all,
Next may we plan to sail to Norway (Bergen, Stavanger) from Belgium or South Holland, via the East UK coast. Depending on weather forecast, we could go up to the Shetlands. We sail on an old deutch ketch made of steel, 12.5m long, 3.5 m width, 1.8 m draft. The owner/skeeper is a very experienced sailor, I am an intermediate experienced sailor and my brother is a beginner.
We would appreciate receiving advices on the ports you recommend along the uk coastline.
Thanks in advance.

The Firth of Forth while beautiful to sail and having a few good points to harbor (though many of them are tidal) might not be the best place to go exploring up due to moderate to heavy (depending on time of year) traffic from large vessels. On the other hand Up to about Musselbourgh and Due North across is a few nice towns with harbours that are worth stopping in for a meal and a quality pint for the end of a days sailing. I will talk to my neighbour who I go sailing with and knows the ports better then I about where is best when sailing up the coast after crossing from your area.

Michael

Thank you chiroeurope for these informations. We are looking for nice and safe places, where electricity supply is available.

I had my trimaran berthed in Maylandsea in the River Blackwater and in 2005 we did a family summer cruise north to Great Yarmouth. We really enjoyed the three rivers north of Harwich / Felixstowe
- the River Orwell leading to Ipswich, with marinas at both ends
- the River Deben, very low key but cute
- the River Ore leading to Aldeburgh with swinging moorings.
