Hi,
Does anyone know if its legal to charge a 7.5% sales tax on labor and storage of a boat on land ?
Is that Sales or does it fall under another name .
Thanks For any help

In some states the labor is a service that is not taxed. Similarly storage. Call the state to find out.

The boat is tangible personal property, so work on the boat is taxable. I think contacting Florida dept of revenue might be the best alternative, though. The link above gives you some information that might help.

Where are you storing the boat this year? And when = soon, I guess, since things must have started growing again up north, right?

If things in Fla haven't changed since I operated vessels there a while back they have a strange tax system. There is no tax on labor in Fla, UNLESS parts are used. In other words, if a guy does your varnish or cleans the bottom and you supply ALL perishable materials; no tax. If the laborer supplies ANYTHING (sandpaper, scrapers, etc.) then all will be taxed. Storage lockers AND slips are taxable, though if the tax laws are strictly adhered to they shouldn't be; but you aren't going to beat city hall on that one; I've tried.
