Default Refit in se asia

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum so excuse me if I'm asking things that are incorrect or incomplete.

I wanted to know if someone out there had any suggestions on refitting a steel 60 ft ketch that also needs some work done on the rusty bits?

Malaysia / Indonesia / Thailand perhaps.

Can anyone share there experience and recommend a slipway / company we can trust?

Renoir

I can highly recommend Dalac Marine in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

http://www.dalac.com.my/

Good quality work, excellent regular reports on work done to date, not 1c of cost overruns without prior approval and very good prices.

Simon is the guy in charge. Tell him I sent you.

The only minor downside is that you have to go in and out at high tide especially if you have a bit of draft.

A couple of friends have had work done on steel boats in Satun recently, with acceptable results. Dalac sounds good, but check to see if their Travel Lift will handle your boat. We wanted to use them early last year, but they wanted us to drop the forestay off our 40' boat to fit into the Lift. Things may have changed since then.

They did loosen the backstays on mine to get her into the lift, however there's a boat up on the hard here that's at least double my length (so around 80ft) so it doesn't appear to be a major issue. That's not the first time I've had to drop either forestay or backstay to get into a lift. Backstay in my case is easier because I have roller furling gear on the forestay.

Depth as I mentioned is likely to be the biggest issue. The entrance is just dry at chart datum, HWS tides are a bit over 3m so if your draft is more than that then you won't get in.
