OK, everybody, be honest. When you saw the shortened version of this post, which read "Ketch adrift with five tons of co...", how did you finish that sentence?

Thought so.

Me too.

But now that we know it's coffee, aren't these the kind of people that make this world a better place to live? I don't mean by selling "green" coffee, though that's good, too. I mean by gutting their boat and sailing off to another country for a cargo to sell back home. That is inspiring.

I know there are many fingers poised at this very moment to fire off righteous sermons about "poor seamanship" and "waste of Coast Guard resources", and maybe they're right. I don't know the whole story, and neither do you.

But if I had a boat, I'd be out there helping them look.

Bill

I don't disagree with you Bill and, as you say, we don't have the full story but.......

1. is it really coffee?

2. if it is, were they going to declare it for customs?

3. they are now, by carrying commercial cargoes, even if they own the stuff themselves, engaging in commercial shipping. Are they duly qualified, vessel classed and approved etc. etc.?

Methinks, again without knowing the full story, that there might well be a high degree of innocense here, at best, and attempt to defraud US Customs etc. at worst.

Just have to wait and see how it goes.

I am sure the powers to be will be waiting at the dock if ever they do arrive.

I haven't commented on this before because it annoys me so much. If the boat is still floating, how dare that they asked to be rescued. I am very angry that people set out without knowing what they are doing and then cry for help when they are uncomfortable. Over and over again. grumble, grumble, grumble.

New age of Eco-sailing!? What about all that jet-A helicopter fuel used to save their butts? Who is paying for this new age of Eco-sailing rescue?
