I'm in beautiful San Carlos. It's cold, but the desert air is so clear and crisp that the mountains surrounding the marina look like something from another world.

Great marina, lots of very good helpful people and some very nice cruising people. I'm doing a big 'chuck-out' on the boat. It's full of crap, such as flares which expired in the 80's and PFDs which simply wouldn't 'F'.

It's a good boat however and as soon as I clean all the garbage out, I can rig it and see just what it requires to make an ocean crossing.

Who would have thought? A lesson I failed to learn in Thailand: If you look and act like you don't understand the currency, a $2 taxi ride will always cost $10. Thieving bas***d!

Today, I am going on a shopping trip to buy the basics; cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils, linen, coffee maker and other similar items without which, life has no meaning.

Now..back to practice. Uno cervesa por favor...uno cervesa po......

Hi Andy, buying a boat was time consuming, but not difficult. Mine was US registered and needed to be registered in Oz. It took time, but was all fairly straight forward.

There are many boats for sale, but it seems the maintenance upkeep is not what it should be. It appears that many people sail down from the US and are not keen to sail the return, upwind leg. The boats get left and in many cases they appear to be all but abandoned.

Mine is a rolled steel 37' sloop. Built in 1963/64. It need some work to prepare it for an ocean crossing, but I guess that is true o all boats. At the moment I am working long hours just to clean it out, assess the contents, add to 'The List', and move toward the relaunch.

Can't remember when I last had so much fun!
(yay......)

Good to know! I'm boat shopping and see a lot of boats for sale in that area. I'm not "serious" for awhile, but it may well be worth the trip down when I am. I'm in California, not too terribly far.
