Ah... EGYPT... the Mother of Civilization... where The Old meets The Ancient.
We transited the Suez Canal a few years ago - northbound on a 37 ft mono.
It's a two day passage and pilots are mandatory. Total official cost was $310 USD... plus a carton of cigarettes, two lunches, a ballpoint pen and $35 about bucks in tips.
We stayed in Port Suez two weeks and enjoyed a most delightful adventure including Cairo and an overnight train up the Nile River(south) to Luxor.
My only regret was not sailing to Alexandria while we were so close.
My only complaint was the near constant begging for "bakshish".
