Default Indonesia to Australia

Hi there,

Myself and my partner are trying to reach Australia without flying but we are finding it hard to get from Indonesia to Australia, we will probably be arriving in Indo sometime in January of Febuary and are willing to travel from any port in Indo to any port in Australia, has anyone got any suggestions or know if this is even possible at this time of year...

My email address is himthere@hotmail.com if you have or would like more information...

Thanks for your help guys...

Hi,

You may have to wait a while longer than Jan or Feb as the cyclone season here is usually late November to about late March and not many yachts venture too far in the Northern parts of Australia during that time. You might get lucky but I would think far more likely to get a lift after April.

Hope that helps a bit,

Lexx

I suggest you contact the Darwin Sailing Club and The Dinah Beach Cruising Yacht Club. Both of these great clubs organise blue water races from Darwin through SE Asia. Many of the boats reprovision at Benoa Harbour before making their way back to Darwin.

Many boats are world cruising and keep going across the Indian ocean, but, I should think it will not be too difficult to jag a crewing spot back to Oz.

Last time I did the race, I took backpacking crew who left the boat to continue their Asian travels, and were replaced for the return journey.

Both DSC and DBCYA have websites for your initial contact.
Best wishes.

Oops! I should have pointed out that the races and rallies generally head out of Darwin in June/July.
