Default Looking for advice on boat for cruising/diving

Hello all,

I've read through all of the very helpful tips here on the cruiser sailing forums, and was hoping to get some specific buying advice if possible?

I have a budget of 50-75k u.s., and would like to buy a boat that would be good for weekend trips along the Pacific Northwest, specifically for diving, AND would also be good for cruising the world a couple of years down the road. Having easy access from the rear of the boat would be great for diving, but I don't want a racer, and this seems to be the only sort of boat I see rear entry available on. If there's some sort of strap-on contraption that would work as a dive platform on a regular hull, I'd love to know about it!

I'm looking for a 26-32 footer. Something small and low maintenance, safe, fun to sail, good for 1-3 people? Interior space and speed are not as important to me as other factors... I should also add that I'm set on a single hull boat.

I'm also not looking for a fixer-upper or a 30 year old boat, as age worries me.

Is this list of wants at all possible?

I appreciate any help. Specific boat suggestions would be great if possible, as opposed to "there are hundreds of boats in your range"

Much appreciated in advance,

Dave

An offshore boat won't generally have a big open space on the rear where crew can slide out the back...

Put the dingy in the water, dive from that.

A Freedom 40 may be a good boat for you (not the 40/40). Easy enough to single-hand, roomy enough for 3-4 people. Great cruising boat that is NOT slow at all. I'm partial to the center-cockpit model.

Also the Searunner 37 Trimaran. Though I know you're set on a single hull, these are worth checking out. Amazing safety record, plenty of speed, great layout, also easily single-handed.

On the smaller end of the Spectrum- the Watkins 32 / Watkins 33 (same boat, it's actually 32'6" and they couldn't decide what to call it) is high on my list for single-handed cruiser with room for occasional guests.

For cruising- look for a real sea berth (not the V-berth) on each side of the boat. You'll want to be in the lee-ward berth while cruising. Around mid-point and aft is best. On Multihulls this doesn't really matter as they barely heel.
