hello all,

we are about to take our yacht up to Phuket to have the antifoul done and the deck recaulked. The option at the present time is the Boat Lagoon in Phuket - has anyone been there lately eg. last year. We draw 3 metres and have been told we will be very lucky to get in without touching or even sticking to the bottom. Does anyone have any insider information on this entrance that could be of assistance?

Thanks for your thoughts

Gail

Gail

Exactly what draft does the boat have ?? At 3 metres = 9ft 9inches then it is advisable to enter at full springs. Here is a website which may be useful HERE

22nd/23rd July highest tides Midday 3.5 Metres.

You can arrange with the Manager Khun Tanna at the office for them to send out a launch to guide and if necessary give a nudge through the sticky parts.

I can get you way points on the passage into the Marina if you wish.

Hi, we were there about 15 month ago, near a full moon, our draft is 2 Metres and yes we hit bottom a few times, frankly I would not go there again, its a cess pit in the water as not very tidal, boat was in the marina for rigging repairs. Boat was left with a large amount of "putrid" gunk at the water line and below

Close to town but over priced,

I am frankly negative about the Yacht Lagoon but you can get most bits there quickly.

The channel has piles on one side and its only about 8 Metres wide. I was told to keep away from the pile as some had been hit and broken below water line and a new pile place near it. As it was we encountered a large motor yacht coming in and he pushed us close to the piles. I'm not sure how you would go at 3 metres probably better to go to yacht haven as many trades work out of there unless you are hauling out.

Haul out options now are Satun down south, Lankawi Reback or in Lankawi it self. Also Penang.

Reback has some specials on. However you could make a deal with Miss O at Satun however be aware limited english speaking tradesmans and limited people around who could help you. MIs O has had a baby and is not in the yard as often as she was.

If you have a timber boat needing plank repairs this is the only place to go.

I was a yacht with a large amount of worm in the planks be stripped and replanked in a week, It was a wonderful to see such good tradesman working in large planks with precision, cabinet work well frankly no unless you do it your self and use a guy to cut to shape etc. Bring your own SS Screws etc from Langkawi and any other yacht bits you need.

All the Best

Ross

Hello Gail,

I am sending you a PM with details of where to get your boat taken out and repaired - antifouled etc. by people who really know your type of boat.

Ross and Richard - thank you for the advice. Ross we are not going to Boat Lagoon now - due to draft issues and the type of lift we want. We are presently booked in to a shipyard in the Phuket town - up the main river. They have larger boats in there and can cradle us out of the water - which is what we would like. Richard - we are not a planked boat - she is cold moulded mahogany and we are not able to aford having her redone this time. Saving up for thatand buying lotto tickets - just doing the deck this time and the anitfoul and a few internal woodwork projects.

yours appreciatively

Hi Gail,

Have been away Hope you are in the shipyard,

If you are keep a detailed log on who is working on your boat each day when jobs were started and finished and what material are used by the yard or contractor.

If you can't speak Thai you are up the creek so try to get someone independant to give instruction,

Hope all goes well for you

and watch out for the Rats they are everwhere and if they get on the boat you can have real problems with wiring

Good luck

RossMonty
