Default Australian hull identification

I have a registration code on one of my yachts that I can't trace.

It's AU-ABM000056QT4 according to the registration but the hull plate hasn't been found anywhere and I suspect it was either painted over or removed during restoration.

The trouble with that is in Australia there are multiple registries and I have no idea what AU-ABM refers to. The other yacht is AU-WWA056485C78 which refers to NSW Waterways, a precursor to NSW Maritime.

Any ideas? The mystery yacht is in Queensland so I have to assume the registration has been in that state since it was built. Please note that references to the current boatcode/HIN system are useless, these are both much older than that system.

I can't help specifically, but I assume the QT at the end of the number denotes Queensland Transport, and the '4' maybe refers to the home port. Assuming Brisbane is '1', it could mean the vessel was registered in Rockhampton. The official boat number should be etched into the main beam overhead. Generally near the compression post and often above access to the forward cabin.

I imagine there is a chap wearing a bowtie somewhere at the offices of the Queensland Maritime Museum, who would either know the answer to your question, or who would relish the task of searching for an answer.

Here is their contact info@maritimemuseum.com.au

Good luck.

PS. It could be worthwhile contacting a marine insurer such as Club. You can be sure that if you were insured and made a claim, somewhere, someone would dig up the original details.

Good call on emailing the Maritime Museum, I did just that. Surely they will have trod this path before and have an idea of where the registries can be found, and who to contact for research data.

Masts and superstructure of the Qld yacht were replaced about 7 years ago and the only plate I've found is on the transom but it was painted over and removing that paint would probably damage any data present.

The NSW yacht ID plate was found inside the electrical cupboard, and a second plate was found on the transom but was also painted over.
