The media has been concentrating on the damage on land, buildings, homes and crops. It did show a yacht of maybe 40' high and dry against a car so that along with the wind strength and the cyclone being a cat5 we must accept that there has been a lot of damage to the boating folk. There is another cyclone (Wati) in the same area but further south that came from Fiji and is of concern. I'm presently some 400nm south and the weather here is under the effect of the storms but not causing any concerns, just rain and 40 knot winds so far. The reported tide surge should be remembered with a rise of 4 metres above expected high tide - that would cause a few tight anchor chains without adding the wind.
