Default Can sail from Trinidad to Fortaleza SE?

Hello. Sorry about my english. I´m planning to keep a sailing boat from Venezuela to the south of Brasil but I`ve heard that the currents and winds are not good for a south east course. All the information you would send will be welcome. Thanks.

Go to the Library. There are many books on the subject. Go to chart stores. Ask for "Pilot Charts"....charts that cover entire oceans and give conditions, current, winds, storm occurences, one page for every month. Go to harbors and talk to sailors that sail the oceans.

Winds blow from East to West. Ocean current is driven by the winds, so that, also runs from east to west. From Trinidad to Brazil is almost due east, so you would be sailing right into wind and current. It's been done, but it is a long, slow, tiring trip. Joshua Slocum wound up sailing to South Africa and then across to South America.

Oscar's right, find pilot charts. The British Admiralty's "World Sailing Ship Routes" or "World Cruising Routes" by Jimmy Cornell will help you immensely.

Fair winds,

Jeanne
