I'm a bit of a bookworm. Over time, I've been trying to beef up my do it yourself boat book library. I've found these books to be helpful. I'm interested to hear of any new do-it-yourself books that might be out there that I haven't heard of yet. Do any of you have any suggestions for other do-it-yourself books?

I like reading about everything so any topic is appreciated - especially if you see something the books listed here don't cover. Especially looking for good celestial navigation books.

I really like Nigel Calder's "Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual" for general boat maintenance, it has to be the best all round marine maintenance book ever written. However I have to say I prefer Luc Pallas' book on Diesel Engine maintenance over Calder's "Marine Diesel Engines" as the layout is better, it separates maintenance and repair tasks each into separate sections, with diagrams, photos, and lots of helpful advice on each section. Takes you from the basics of doing an oil change to tasks that almost equate to an engine rebuild, step by step.

I'm glad to see this topic come up here in the Cruising Forum -- where many people can see it. However, don't forget that we have the "Ships Library" in the Living Aboard Forum and it includes the following:

In particular check out the "must have" books topic here: http://www.cruiserlog.com/forums/ind...showtopic=3812

Fair winds,

P.S. Sweet--this is your first post and I note that you just registered yesterday--please tell us a little about yourself and your cruising--perhaps in the Forum "Tavern" so we can all get to know you better! Here's the link to that Forum
