I hopes of seeing more great places before I die - I wish to learn of everyone's Personal Favorite Cruising Destinations and the reasons you like them so.

The top of my list would have to be where we are right now - the Virgin Islands of the Caribbean, followed by the Penang to Phuket region of Malaysia / Thailand and the Turquoise Coast of Turkey.

For me, the Virgin Islands are among the finest cruising destination because of the consistant trade winds blowing across calm, protected waters, the countless anchorages offering everything from absolute seclusion to calypso dancing and the availability of ice... not to mention cheap rum and expensive restauraunts. We kinda have everything a sailor could want here.

Where are your favorite places to be on a boat?

Love to Live - Live to Love,

Kirk

Without a doubt, the finest cruising ground I have ever been fortunate enough to visit is Chile's Pattagonian coast. From Puerto Montt to Cape Horn the coast is magnificent, the people friendly and the weather.........well, that leaves a lot to be desired of course. For me, no where else on earth comes even close to the beauty of this remote part of our world.

Aye,

Stephen

The islands of Hermit and Ninigo - lovely people

The islands of Lembeh and Taliabu - Out of the way

Peros Banos and Salomon - Before they disappear

Cocos - On the way to somewhere

Seto Nakai - In spring

Tanna in the Vanuatu island group. For its volcano, Yasur. You can stand right at the edge of the mouth of the volcano and it is awesome.

We loved Saba in the Caribbean - not far away from the Virgins!

No protected anchoring grounds though - so the huge fleet of charter boats do not go there.

And pick a cloudless day, take your dinghy around the island and hike up the Mt Scenery on Saba... it's like heaven!

And if you don't mind marinas and harbours to tie up to , the Azores are wonderful islands just outside the tropics. You have to sail long stretches between islands of fantastic scenery though. Most times easy light wind sailing if you do not choose to do that in the winter.

Good sailing!

Uwe

You have already quoted many of the finest.

From our own cruising, one of our favourites is the coast of Mozambique and Tanzania (East Africa). This coast is seldom visited by cruising yachts when traversing the Mozambique Channel - they all tend to move along the west coast of Madagascar.

The African coast in this section is wonderfully endowed with coral reefs, beautiful beaches, friendly communities and an abundance of crayfish (lobster). One of our highlights was our visit to Mozambique Island, a World Heritage site.
