Holding Tanks

Would appreciate any help. I'm fitting a new toilet and holding tank to my 25' Triton. My plan was to have an electric head with macerator which could pump either directly overboard in places where it is allowed or to a holding tank to be either removed at a shore based facility or pumped overboard where legal. My question is my electrical supply is limited and I would like to use a manual pump from the holding tank, is this possible and does any one know of any designs.

Hand operated pump very feasible ! First ! Need to know what size holding tank? - what material ? what shape? - How/ where will it be located?

How many users ? (average)

I am not sure that a macerator is necessary - many pumps like the Henderson will move a tennis ball through the eye of a needle.

The Pump can be used to pump into the open sea or into a holding tank and out of the head and out of the holding tank with a couple of Y valves.

Like Richard, I do not think a macerator is necessary. I have a Lavac vacuum toilet with a Henderson Mk5. It seems to do the job well and is idiot proof. Page 493 of the West Marine 2007 cattle dog, gives some great info on marine dunnies. . If you don't have the catalogue, go to westmarine.com and search 'marine sanitation'.

A manual pump is all we've had for our holding tanks. A Whale diaphragm pump. Works really well. A centrifugal pump would be inefficient and prone to clogs, I think.

Thanks very much everyone. Due to Regs in my part of the world (Morteon Bay Queensland) I will have to use a macerator unless I am offshore. So I think I will have an electric toilet and use a manual pump to pump out of the holding tank. Don't you just love regulations. Anyway thanks for your help.
