Information on the South Atlantic crossing by yacht in 1982/83

Dear everybody,

I am a French amateur novelist and I am looking for information on the crossing of the South Atlantic in 1982/83.

In fact, in the story I am writing, my main character is attempting to reach Africa (perhaps South Africa) from South America (perhaps the Guianas or Brazil).

Since I have been told that one way for him to do this could have been by sailing on a yacht (and working there to finance his crossing), I am asking for your help in finding clues about this possibility at the time. Therefore, if you could provide me with the names of some yachts that crossed the South Atlantic during this period, or an association or person to contact, I would be very grateful.
