Lanteen riggers

Who can tell me the best way to address the "bad tack" on a lanteen-rigger -- i.e., without having to undo part of the rigging and push it manually to the other side of the mast every time you tack. Assume it's very simply rigged, like a dhow.

Hummm.... We have a lateen rig for sailing our canoe. We've always just deal with it pushing the sail against the mast on the one tack. I suppose we could have scandalized the rig to get the sail around the mast but it seemed to be too much work to do so on a small boat like that.

What size vessel are you thinking of a lateen rig on? It is mostly a small boat rig.

It's a 14ft canoe. I wanted to rig it like one of those old Italian fishing feluccas in San Fransisco from back in the 1890's.

On a lateen rig, the part that is upset by resting against the mast is one of the least productive parts of the sail, so it's not worth bringing the sail to the lee side of the mast, especially on such a small craft...
