It's none of my business of course, but I've come to the conclusion that most web fora are too categorised. By which I mean that, in dividing the Forum into diferent groups (sailors vs. power boaters - in the case of Cruiser log - and everyone vs racing sailors in many other fora) you are denying many people cross cultural information which may be useful.

For example, a power boater who has a problem with charging diodes is just as interesting to cruising sailors who may never log on to the powerboat forum - and vice versa.

The Sailor who has paint problems, galvanic action problems, crew problems,or problems with a randy wife, is just as interesting to the power cruiser.

Clearly, there is an issue of too much information clogging any particular forum, but I suggest that in the case of Cruiser Log, this is not the case.

I think few people observe the distinction unless it is a topic specific to a particular style of cruising boat...And I feel sure the recent posts on sport are not sail-specific....and certainly not even in the top 50 or 75% of the intellectual spectrum....But then again...OOOHHH-AAHHHH Glen Mcgrath!

Cannot see the problem... If I want to read the crew or cruising section I do..

I am also the worst offender at posting sporting achievements , particularly when OZ has done well ( I keep quiet when we don't perform up to our normal expectation) .. so what is the problem ? I am sure powerbpoat people read what interests THEM..and maybe even get a laugh out of my postings..or at least it gives them something to get annoyed about...[}: )][}: )][}: )]

There is no problem.

The point I'm trying to make is that if, as a SAILBOAT man, I post an item in the SAIL forum about (say) batteries, a great number of POWERBOAT people (i.e.those who do not also monitor the SAIL forum - and I suspect that most don't) will miss out on my post and all the accumulated wisdom which follows from subsequent replies.

This is a pity, as batteries have equal relevance to both SAIL people and POWER people. And although it may seem, on the face of it, that POWER and SAIL enthusiasts have different interests, I suggest that most postings are of interest to both.
