Default MMSI number

I cruiser friend of mine in Turkey has just got a "new" used boat. She has a US registration and flag. She is equipped with an DSC VHF but there is no MMSI number. He wants to get an AIS transponder so he need to get this number.

Could and of the US sailors in our forum help by suggesting how and where he must go, preferably via Internet, to obtain this highly desired number?

Any help/hints will be appreciated.

If the vessel is going to be used internationally, then operator and station licenses (and an MMSI number for DSC) are required.

Everything your friend needs can be found on the FCC website: FCC: Wireless Services: Ship Radio Stations: Licensing

If the boat is in the US and is not going to be used internationally, then a free number can be obtained online through BOAT US.
