Default Overland Transport Dubai to Aqaba

There is a desire by many of the cruisers finding their way towards Australia and Indonesia this season to develop alternative routes to the Med. The one that seems to be in favor for the right price of around $10k is trucking from Dubai to Aqaba, Jordan.

Several of the sailors that I have been in touch with would like to establish a location for sharing information on transport around or over the desert to the Med. Would CL be interested in hosting such a thing?

Why don't we put a sub-forum under the regional one for Red Sea et al. SE Asia, The Red Sea & Indian Ocean - Cruiser Log World Cruising & Sailing Forums for this? I can see more than a single topic needed so a sub-forum should do--what should we call it?

Further, we can set up a cruisers wiki page for the "permanent" references/resource info to ultimately reside and be linked to in a sticky in the forum.

CL does have the ability to form Social Groups around a particular topic--we've just not done so. See info in the Community about "Groups" http://www.cruiserlog.com/forums/groups/ where a lone member has set up an IO group already. I'm not sure of the extent of utility of the Social Groups, but we can work with it, too.

So? what do you think--further ideas, needs. CL remains non-commercial in nature but has no problem getting information about services and local service providers to the cruising community. We even have a very under-used marine vendor forum where boat movers and the like could be placing a post about their services.

Fair winds,

A wiki page sounds like the best idea to me. Social groups for the cruising community seems like a contradiction in terms ;-)

Ultimately, a wiki page makes sense yes. However, the interested parties need a forum/spot to share info which we'll ultimately put into the wiki when it's firmed up. So--sub-forum name? "Red Sea Bypass" ? or similar. Let me know and I'll set it up today.

Here's the Forum Bypassing The Gulf of Aden - Cruiser Log World Cruising & Sailing Forums

I'll put together a wiki as soon as we begin to have some interest/discussion going in the forum. Suggest that you go start an intro there.
