Default Pacific

I have been watching the wind patterns on the world wind map (earth wind map ) closely. There is, it seems to me, a reasonably good case for crossing the Pacific within 3 degrees of the equator. Sure, there is no Tahiti, but there is a smattering of islands and nations within easy striking distance.

I would be interested to hear the thoughts of the community.

This link gives a nifty animation of ocean currents taken from 5 years hard data. View this full screen and take note of the month and year in the top right hand corner of your screen. Animation Reveals Ocean Currents | LiveScience

The following link is from CSIRO, and has some good animations: CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research - Our Research

David there are way too many great places to visit that are outside of 3 degrees. Remember the reason for cruising is to visit such places.
Anyway hope you have a great crossing and hope to meet up in Oz and have a beer with you. I think it was in 1999 that we last saw one another in Darwin.
Cheers.

That's impressive graphics and computer animation generation, by Livescience.
What a shame it's not real time. Still at the rate there progressing it won't be too far away.
Thanks for those links Aussie.

I agree with Gone Troppo here, as the point for me to go sailing the big blue, is to see as much of what's out there as possible & I don't mean the salty brine.

Hey Gone Troppo, I'm currently in Darwin and hope to catch up with you and Aussie sometime for a frothy sherbet.
Cheers,
AussieBruce

AussieBruce we will be back in Darwin in April if all goes well. Sailing back from Thailand at the moment.
Looking forward to having a drink with you.
Cheers.
