Just a question for those who may be more knowledgeable - I am looking to charter a sailboat for a few days in miami / florida keys area in Mid-october. Can anyone comment on whether the weather would tend to be good or bad at this time?

Welcome to Cruiser Log,

THe National Hurricane Center issued the following yesterday :-

NOAA: 2007 Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook Update

Issued: 9 August 2007

Realtime monitoring of tropical Atlantic conditions

http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/outl...hurricane.shtml

It looks like the predictions for an abnormally high season of tropical storms are holding.

Therefore , depending on how long you are chartering for, and what sort of communications you will have on the boat. If you are sailing close to the point of hire then with the long range forecasts available, you should be able to return the boat long before trouble arrives.

However, your best bet is to prepare for a optional charter where there are no tropical storms.

Richard

Don't forget to get the insurance rider.

Sailing in, and out of Miami for years. I would not worry about the hurricanes unless one is approaching on the start of your trip. We always get weeks of notice from their birth. I am not saying to go out in a hurricane, but you will always have time to return the boat to the charterer before any weather shows up. It is also a lovely time of the year for south Florida. The summer heat has broken, and the evenings are cool. Enjoy your trip, and write me if you would like some chat time about the area.

I have not noticed that and have been in Fl. for 25+ years.

IMO I guess.

Ditto what Imagine..... said.

October can be great.

PS I did not find too many choices in charters in SE Fl. But I would want 36-40 ft cat. Unless it was a Gemini....so I could check it out for real.

My friend charted that boat a year ago, and met me at Gun Cay. He liked the way it sailed.

Look in SW Florida as well, only 160 miles from Ft Myers.
