I am trying to dig up info on a boat I am considering looking at. It is a 1979 Halstead Phoenix 42. Designer Van De Stadt built in Halstead South Africa.
Note the link to the dealer ad.
Sailboats: 42' Halstead Phoenix 42 - Listing #: 3954
Also the limited specs the dealer was able to provide don't really tell me much more than the ad. See below. Although it seems fairly well equipped.

That is where it all comes to a grinding halt. I can't seem to find anything online about this builder nor is the design listed on the Van De Stadt Web Site.
I have seen so many posts referencing Cap'n Fatty Goodlander that I bought Buy, Outfit, and Sail..... now I'm all spooked. Worse, my wife read it!
Probably best to be a little on the jumpy side I guess.
Any thoughts of wisdom out there?
Obviously I would get an inspection and such but I would really like to know more about the history of the design and this production model before I spend any money. (Thank you Cap'n Fatty!!)
The boss and I plan to live aboard for around a year with a home port of Somewhere" around Vancouver Island learning how to keep the water on the outside of the boat in an efficient way so,,,, we do have time to do some retro work but....... the the price range is attractive. Or, is it?
