I would like to provide potential crew with a statement of the rules for international voyaging on my boat. I do not want it to be a treatise of legalese with no other purpose than bum-covering. Rather, I would like it to detail, in simple terms, the expectations and responsibilities of both skipper and crew.
I know some of our members choose to rely on instinct rather than a charter, but I am hoping that submissions from our members can eventually be distilled into a working set of Articles which can provide a base document which all of our members, both crew and owners, can utilise.
In a separate post Southpacific provides this excellent point: "No unopened packages or third party deliveries are permitted on board".
I add: "No illicit substances are permitted onboard. The skipper must be advised of any patent or prescription medicines brought aboard. Prescription medicines must be accompanied by a valid script".
"Any and all use of the ship's medicine chest should be reported to the skipper".
Further suggested categories: Costs, safety, weapons, cultural considerations, immigration documentation/visas etc., duties, dispute resolution, illegal activity.
Cheers
David.
