Default Vagabond 47

Hello again!

I would like to say thanks for the answers on my previous question.

I´ve found a boat I´m on my way to look at. A Vagabond 47, very nice hopefully!!

The boat is from 1981 with some major upgrades, around 100k $. Is this a good buy for this amount or should I look at something else?

One problem is that I can´t find any solid info about the actual length of the Formosa 47.

Some of them for sale on the internet are LOA 47 and LWL 36.

The one I´m looking at is LOA 51, LOD 47, LWL 42??

Does anyone know...

Is the actual length LOA 47 including bowsprit and LWL 36?

Thanks!

The LOA can be the spar length which I understand can include the bowsprit as a spar...and if the mizzen boom extends past the stern it can be included in the length measurement. However many sellers will include swim platforms etc. The best determinant for actual length is LWL in conjunction with LOD.

There was recently an indonesian prahu for sale in Darwin. LOA 56', LWL 31'.

Thanks David.

LOA 51´ and LWL 31´ sounds like something more than bowsprit might be included!

Still looking around and have emailed the seller but still waiting for respons...

As I happen to own a Vagabond 47,here is the details you are looking for. The actual deck length is 46'7", length at Water line is 36'. The bowsprit is on top of the deck length, I never measured it but it is about 5 feet.

I'm a little surprised about a "Formosa 47" as I never heard of it. The Formosa 51 is well know but 47, I am not sure about. Both were built in a different shipyard with different standard and plans.

A 1981, Vagabond 47 for 100K$ is a good price but depending what you are planning to do with her it might cost another 100K to get her to a good standard.

One more thing about the Vagabond, they are maintenance intensive partly due to the large amount of Teak, so they are no weekend cruiser. We live on ours most of the time and it seems to be the best way to keep the "things to do list" under control.

If you search the web for Vagabond 47, you'll find quite a few for sale, that will give you the range.

Best of luck,
