Default Weather timing - Indian ocean to Med winter?

My wife and I are planning a voyage from Australia across the Indian ocean and up into the Med (Greece/Italy/France). We were planning to leave Darwin, Australia around July to reach Seychelles by late Sept/October (Via Cocos, Chagos). Pretty standard season timing for an Indian Ocean crossing.

We were planning to reach the Med via the Red Sea. All risks and opinions aside re the Red Sea route, this would bring us into the Med sometime in winter. I was hoping not to leave our vessel and put a big break in our trip, but the more I read about winter conditions in the Med, the more I am reconsidering our timing.

Has anyone on this forum got experience sailing the Med in winter, or transited the Indian ocean and then into the Med without having to wait out a season? If so what was your timing??

I would prefer to get to the Med via Sth Africa + E to W then W to E Atlantic crossings than break up our journey by leaving the yacht for a season!

We would value your input!

Hmmm, why would you enter the Med somewhere in the winter going through the Red Sea?

If you take a comfortable route and pace, visiting some places going up through Indonesia, Malaysia, Thayland and say Sri Lanka and/or the Maldives considering the seasons you can take your time transitting the Red Sea comfortable in march/april (as most people do). That makes you entering the Med in the spring, the best and most beautiful part of the year!

You should also post this question to the Indian Ocean specific discussion forum board at http://www.cruisingconnections.co.za/forums/

Good luck
