Default Where we are right now

Hi all.

I've been keeping our blog up to date but not really giving info here about where we are.

“The days pass happily with me wherever my ship sails.” – Joshua Slocum.

For these past several weeks, our ship sails the waters of the California Delta. Fed from the Sacramento River, the Georgiana Slough is our anchorage for now. The rich agricultural history of the Delta is still here: Pear farms, grapes, fields of ripe tomatoes, corn ready for harvest stands dry and golden in the fields. New Delta friends tell us that in the days gone by there were packing sheds alongside the sloughs and docks everywhere because the fruits were taken to market on the rivers and sloughs–not by truck. Today, we see the farm trucks going by with their loads of hay, grapes, tomatoes, and other good fare. Heavy equipment on the levy road; it makes me smile and remember growing up in a farming community in Indiana. River otter, mink, muskrat, woodchuck, familiar furry neighbors. The birds overhead include eagle, falcon, swallows, phoebe, egrets, heron, and the usual assortment of songbirds and unidentified little brown birds. Fish jumping, big and small, but no anglers are successful in luring them to hook. I call out to the passing fishermen “did you catch anything?” and I hear “no, not today” even as I see a big fish jump nearby the boat.

Our next anchorage was behind Decker Island. There we had a wonderful view of Mount Diablo

Then, we moved on to spend the night at Mandeville Tip and had a wonderful view of sunset over Mount Diablo.

Of course, almost everywhere you are in the California Delta, you've got a wonderful view of sunset over Mount Diablo! It's a great landmark.

We're now on the hard and doing touch-up bottom paint (keel only, not hull) and topsides paint. Here's a post with video taken during our early morning motor up the misty San Joaquin River to Stockton for the haul out.

Hi Guys, Love the photos. Life slowly going on here. Me and the animals are living down in Ensenada, Mexico while Alan is back home working in Australia. Looking like we might sail on down to Panama next year where we will spend some time cruising the Caribbean before heading on over the Atlantic to the Med. Cheers Lesley.

Hi Leslie, We miss hearing about your own adventures. Sorry Alan is not with you right now. Fingers crossed that he'll be back soon and you'll be on your way again.

Sounds bloody idyllic. Wishing I were on the move.

I have a slip at Korths Pirates Lair at the mouth of the Mokolome river not far from you.

The delta is really nice but so is the ocean.

The Delta is an amazing (motor) cruising ground. We're enjoying it very much while we're here. An entirely different experience than sailing along the Pacific coast for sure.

Fair winds,

Fair winds,
how much longer will you be in the delta? You have a beautiful boat.
I can't get enough of either the delta or the pacific ocean myself. Thinking about it a costal trip to Washington would not be a good thing right now with the wind pattern this time of the year off the coast of Oregon....Well, maybe you could make little trips when weather windows open but the bars north of Bodega Bay get nasty and progressively worse the further north you go. Have you made this trip in the winter before? I've never tried to go north from SF bay so I'm just guessing does anyone know?
