Default would like some opinions about training

Hello everyone,

I would like some input on the best way to get training in sailing. I'm planning on taking onboard courses out of Ft Lauderdale. With the intent of crewing afterwards or seeking employment on day trips in the keys or bahamas.

these are the courses that I'm planning on attending:

"Course A Plus Cat

Basic Sailing (ASA 101), Basic Coastal Cruising (ASA 103) and Bareboat Chartering (ASA 104) combined. More advanced sailing and navigation exersises plus knowledge of boat systems amd maintenance procedures qualify you to charter a similar vessel. Bareboat Chartering on a cruising catamaran. Course A Plus with ASA 114 - Cruising Catamaran."

and then maybe a few weeks later

"C - Advanced Coastal Cruising

Coastal Navigation (ASA 105) and Advanced Coastal Cruising (ASA 106). A class for experienced coastal sailors. Apply the navigation theory of Coastal Navigation (ASA 105) in a passage to the Bahamas and return. Advanced seamanship skills, maintenance and troubleshooting of boat systems. Requires certification in ASA 101, 103, 104 (Course A Plus).

Course D - Celestial Navigation

Learn to navigate on the open ocean by the sun, moon, water and planets. A two day clininc that is held immediately prior to the Offshore Passagemaking (ASA 108) course. Home study prior to the course is highly recommended. Includes textbook, plotting sheets and worksheets."

my question is, what does everyone think about this approach to training? Would this training be desirable to the skippers out there or is there a better approach? I should add that I have very little experience already. Just day sailed on small 22 ft boats on lake erie.

any advice greatly appreciated.

Mike
