A 52-foot yacht burned and sank off the Olympic Peninsula, and its lone passenger was plucked from the frigid waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca on Saturday in a dramatic rescue involving two boats and a helicopter.
A Canadian whale-watching boat then spotted black smoke from 12 miles away, called the U.S. Coast Guard and made its way to the scene, offering to help transport Justis to safety.
