Hi,
I can see no reason whatsoever for someone wanting to work on cruise- or other ships to stud computer sciences. I got a foreign going ship master's ticket 30 years ago and I have a son studying for his at the moment. We have done this in different ways as I was an apprentice (officer cadet) whereas my son went to pre-sea training school and completed his sea-time before going to university.
As to the field to start your career in, it depends what you would like to do. The most diversified job types will be found on cruise-ships with everything from hair-dressers to engineers so no advice can be given unless you tell us what you would like to do at sea.
And yes, no matter what branch you would like to join, everyone needs basic safety and fire-fighting training. This is the minimum STCW standard.
Having come out with all of the above, this is not really the right forum for such questions as you pose as this forum is dedicated to cruising yachts. Nevertheless, ask your questions and I will try to answer them.
