My boyfriend (33) and myself (24) are both experienced "tall ship" (large, traditionally-rigged vessel) sailors looking to crew from the east coast, USA or the Caribbean, to Europe in Spring 2011. He's worked on sailboats for one season, and I've been working on tall ships for about a year and a half. We both have experience with ship maintenance, standing watch underway, and handling sail; I also have experience as paid ship's cook, and as a watch leader underway. He's been underway for 4-5 days at a time, and I've been underway on trips of up to ten days.

We both have a safety-oriented, professional attitude toward sailing. Tall ships have high standards for crew behavior and safety, since we usually have passengers, often young students, on board, even for longer voyages of several days or weeks.

But we are also fun, good-natured world travelers, eager to meet new people and enjoy a great trip in pleasant company. We drink when, and only when, appropriate, and enjoy all variety of outdoor activities. My boyfriend doesn't smoke, and I only smoke occasionally, and could easily do without.

We are prepared to share the cost of food, and pay travel expenses to the departure port. We are willing and eager to share all shipboard responsibilities, and excited for the opportunity to become better sailors. Neither of us has much experience on small vessels, nor has either of us crossed an ocean, but these are two of our primary objectives. We would possibly be willing to sail a bit before/after the transit itself, depending upon what the time frame looks like.

My boyfriend is moving back to Germany this spring, and we're looking for a more interesting way to hop the pond than on an airliner. We are available beginning mid to late March. If you are at all willing to have an enthusiastic, hard-working, young couple of sailing enthusiasts on board, please contact me (Wynne) at independebubble at hotmail dot com and I'll be glad to share more information.
