Crew Wanted: Florida Keys to Panama
We are currently docked in Key Largo, Florida, US on a 40' Motorsailboat, Lazarelle. My husband and I are opening a hostel in Miramar, Panama (near Bocas del Toro) and are looking for additional one to two crew for the trip.
My husband is retired and we have spent the past three years renovating this vessel. We will be traveling with our two conures (loud in the morning and early evening but are sound asleep by 6:00)
We would invite applicants to spend a week or two in the Keys first to ensure that every one is comfortable with the vessel and one another. We will leave the Keys and travel to Panama via Bahamas and Haiti in early to mid May, 2014 and should be in Panama within two weeks. We have entertained the idea of taking the alternative route (Mexico, Belize) which would take a few days longer. We are somewhat flexible regarding time.
Crew are expected to assist in watches, cooking, etc. Some sailing experienced is required.
The daily cost of this trip will be $25 per person/per day, plus cost share in all expenses; fuel, food, marina fees, operating costs, etc.
This is an older vessel that has been extensively renovated. We have a new Yanmar diesel engine, new electronics, new tanks, etc. This is a solid bluewater vessel. Islander (not Morgan), California. Solar power and wind generator. Traveling with EPIRB, Radar, Garmin 5208, VHF radios, Radar, etc.
Accommodations; Two cabins and two heads with showers. Not fancy but comfortable.
Non-smokers, social drinkers.
For crew, we note that other reasonable expenses which crew may be expected and prepared to pay themselves include visa, travel to-and-from the boat, alcohol, eating and drinking in port, transportation in port.
