Hey all...my girl and I decided to depart Sydney in aim of spending a year or three on our yacht and exploring this wonderful world of ours...we want to set sail around Jan of 2015 (so in around 3 months), going north as far as we can below the cyclone zone, then chilling whereever that may be till its over and continue north...aiming to get to Darwin for the Indonesia rally end of July....generally sailing intention is to hop from safe harbour to safe harbour without rushing but moving gradually north...
So, our yacht is a Pacific 38, which is a kiwi built version of a Compass 38, built like a brick shithouse so probably not the fastest yacht but very seaworthy and excellent sea keeping qualities especially in the rough....we're in the midst of re-fitting her, mostly cosmetic and will probably finish up in a month or two at the latest
Ideally we'd want 2 more people so that it would be comfortable for all, people that have sailing experience and ideally able to keep a watch etc...if you're not too far it would be good to go sailing a few times to get to know the yacht and each other etc...
As to us, were around the mid to late 30s, easy going, im ex navy etc so spent a few years at sea, we tend to enjoy healthy living but dont mind having a drink etc, we both dont mind rolling our sleeves up and getting the job done and looking for like minded people who are keen to go sailing and explore
Money wise, I'd be looking to equally split any food and fuel costs (fuel should be minimal)...but yacht maintenance costs would be our responsibility...things like alcohol or own pleasures would be an individual cost which I think is common sense
Would be good if you can join us for the journey but we may have a friend or two come at various legs...anyhow happy to discuss any points, we don't have a specific plan, just a general direction to go so open to ideas and suggestions
