Hello, my father and his 1st officer are planing a trip from RI to FL.
Only their destination will be steahatchee.
Is there a way to sail/motor sail through mainland FL instead of going up and around the whole coast of FL?

There is a Lake Okeechobee Waterway system, but it is so far South and somewhat limited in clearance and draft as not to be much help (IMHO) but, it does cut off 165 NM. Here are the limits and link:
Navigation Depth (Based on 2007 Channel Condition Survey) Route 1 = 7.94' Navigation Depth (Based on 2008 Channel Condition Survey) Route 2 = 6.14' Bridge Clearance = 49.83'

http://www.offshoreblue.com/cruising/okeechobee.php

There was a Northern route planned, but the "Cross Florida Barge Canal" was started in the 70's and then scraped at about 10% completion.

The part that was built North of Crystal River (next to the Nuke power plant), is being converted into "Port Citrus". But it will be a Gulf access only.

Hi,

Not sure if you are still looking for crew, but I would be happy to go along. I'm a recent college grad, taught small boat sailing for two summers (US Sailing Level 1), worked this last summer at a boat manufacturer. Completely clean, don't smoke or drink. Currently located in central MA if you would like to meet me.

Thanks!
Jon
