Default UK to the Carribean to Asia Pacific 2012

Hey All,
I'm currently restoring a Bruce Roberts 42 (lod 39) and hope to have her finished so that I can set sail by Nov from Gran Canaria to go accross to the Carribean and get to Panamay by March so that I can sail the Pacific

So, am a single (well divorced really) mid 30s Aussie who's been enjoying Europe (and working in IT) for far too long so looking to slowly track back towards Australia though may hang about in some interesting places..no rush ...have decent level of sailing experience, dive master etc also ex navy so good seamanship etc but easy going and genuine

Looking for 2-3 crew (3 being max), to join this adventure (any help upfront to help get the yacht back shipshape would also be appreciated ) don't really have a cruise plan, just broad steps from UK to Gran Canaria in time for the ARC (thinking about joining as its a safe way of doing it unless the crew is good and we decide to sail on our 'own') then accross to the Carribean, then Central America and onto the Pacific..

Financials, you need your own spending money, would look towards contributions if we choose to stay in a marina or any harbour entrance/visa fees and food all fair and equal....fuel and yacht related expenses I would cover myself...you've got to be easy going/good natured person, would be good if you have some sailing experience and know that you definitely enjoy the sea as it can be difficult to step off in the middle of the Atlantic

About the yacht, she's a very very solid (therefore probably bit slower than most) bruce roberts length on deck 39 feet, built like the proverbial (ie, 10mm steel on keel area, 8mm on hull etc)...she's made in 1983 in South Africa, re-conditioned engine and am completely refitting her so all new electrics etc she will be up to ARC standard in any case...she sailed extensively around the world, spend her 90s in the Med, then a few years lying about ignored in the UK..I bought her and now have a professional chap fixing her bits so she will be fully sea going by mid season I'd say (around July, Aug latest)

Once she's ready I'll sea trial her for a month or so living onboard and then set off before the season is out to GC via Biscay...or thats the plan anyways...so if you are interested let me know via here or email tdski@hotmail.com

Best
Tom

Hi All,
Sorry to everyone that I did not respond too..I've had a bit of a setback in that we have discovered more work to be done on the Roberts meaning at least a 12 month commitment to get her ready and a week ago I found out my contract is being terminated earlier then expected meaning I wont be able to finish the Roberts in time....

Determined to go, I have decided to sell the Roberts and bought a 31 foot steel yacht which is pretty much ready to go (just came back from sailing her in the North Sea down towards London) bar a few minor improvements...She again is a solid offshore cruiser, built professionally by the Dutch, long and narrow, 31.5 feet in length with a 5 foot bowsprit...I am replacing things like the depth sounder etc which is a bit outdated, fixing a wind vane and other ocean cruising gear and she'll be set to go this July...first part is me going through the french canals and from Sept onwards I'll be sailing her from south of France to Canaries, the Verdes and then across (not sure which route exactly yet but thats the general direction)

Still looking for ppl but it means that 2 is now max as she is very comfortable with 3 onboard (tried and tested)...can take 4 (she's actually 6 berths but I'm converting the two to store my diving gear etc) but probably a little crowdy on an ocean crossing...

Hi All,
I just wanted to clarify my intentions/timeframes...we are now setting off from the south of France around October this year (so not for another 6 months)...then go across to Canaries or the Verdes by Nov with intention of going across around the start of January 2013...please also bear in mind that she is a 31 foot cutter with traditional layout so quite small and its more or less tent conditions She is an excellent sea boat however so very safe...
Also given our uncertainty in plans, I would seek crew only for the first component being the sail across the Atlantic and then see what happens so you would have to be prepared to step off in either Brazil, French Guyana or Suriname and make your own way onwards/back so please bear that in mind as I don't want to set any expectations beyond the first port after the crossing...we want to live a gypsy life for a while so not sure how long it will be before we go over to the Pacific...

Hi Tom, Gaspar and me are a young couple of sailors finishing our engineering studies in Southampton in September. After that our plan is to go sailing and for the moment we've got a boat to deliver from Palma de Mallorca to Canarias at the beggining of October. From then on, we are seeking for a place in any other boat for crossing the Atlantic and stay working in the Caribbean for the winter season. We are Yachtmaster qualified and love sailing, really can't wait for the adventure to start!! Please contact us if you are interested and we can send you our sailing CV: ro.gandarias@gmail.com
Best wishes
Rocio and Gaspar

Hello Tom,
We are a couple (aged 38) who intend crewing cross the Atlantic this November. I don't know whether these dates would suit you or if you are already set up with a full crew?
Both originally marine biologists, I now specialise in teaching outdoor learning. Tom is a GP medical doctor. We both have lots of sailing experience, Tom especially. I've sailed around the coast of Ireland, from Dublin to Kerry via Cork; and around the Isle of Skye. Tom has about 2000 nautical miles under his belt and has sailed from Florida to Chile via the Panama Canal, yachtmaster, PADI Assistant Instructor and various other marine orientated qualifications.

If you'd like to have a Skype chat with us, please email me at carmelhubbard@yahoo.co.uk

Hope your trip is going really well and you're having a fantastic time :-)

Hey everyone...its me Tom, My account got locked due to inactivity and thats due to a bike accident...so was out of action and delayed afair bit with things...so i managed to do all the important work on my yacht (safety, rigging, pumps, engine, electronics, gas and so on) and still have cosmetics plus bits and pieces to sort out before I can take on a sea or anocean but i had to get underway before the cold season sets in... now on the canals in the champagne region with the mast down got up here with the help of a mate but he could only spare 3 weeks due to work, so still looking for people...may have found one person to do the rest of canals with me but not sure yet, so I would prefer one or two people max for the canals or alternatively south of france by end of october to sail with me to Gib..may hop across to Algeria for a looksee then onto Gib or Canaries...and in Jan onwards to the other side of the big drink I know Im running late for the Med but safety first, we wont set off without a good weather window..so running the risk of being delayed there too (so you know) oh by the way with no disrespect in anyway, my personal preference is to have non couples...only because she is small and Im not fond of relationship quirks

My name is Quim.
I'm skipper from Barcelona, 37 years old.
I have already finished the summer season for the Balearic Island and now Now, I am planning to do a new trip.....¿Were?...I don't know!!
I would like to find some sailboat that is sailing along Asia or Oceania
I can fly to any part of the world from November.
The last three winters I have done a voyage crossing the Atlantic Ocean in different sailing vessel type. Each and every of these experiences have been really positive. Actually I have improved considerately my sailing skills, but above all I have changed my conception of travel abroad and so on my lifestyle, inseparable from the sea nowadays.
I am expecting your answer.
All the best
Quim
