Recently reading the new releases from the US Coast Guard, I encountered the words "allision", and "allided". The first use, I thought it was a typo error. The third time in a news release, and it was clear it was meant to be there. Though the meaning of the word was clear from its use, I had never heard it before. So, I went to the various on line dictionaries, and here's its definition from Maritime Dictionary : Allision: striking of a moving vessel against a stationary vessel that is at anchor, aground, etc. or fixed object such as piers, wharves, etc.

The implication is that it is the moving vessel's fault for coming into contact with a fixed object. I like the term and its use.

I like it too. Almost as much as the other one we heard recently concerning the dropping of a pick too close to another vessel - I think its called 'Rancouring'
