Can't We Keep Used Sails For The Sailing World?

I know I should be self-less and glad that sailors all around the world are sending their used sails to be delivered to victims of the recent devastating earthquake in Haiti. *The sails will provide shelter and protection from the rainy season. *See Log article here.

I just think a better use of used sails might be to donate them to be used as, let's see, ummm I've got it: *SAILS! *

There are sailing communities all around the world. *Places where sailing is an important way of getting around. *There are folks who actually need sails! *And, not just cruisers. *Selfish of me to think of donating the sails for sailing purposes I suppose. *But a sail is a very expensive tarp to be using when a less specialized piece of plastic will do. **
