For the second time this year, I have had to cancel my Chase Visa card due to fraudulent internet charges which come in a flurry. They are strange charges for only a couple of dollars from multiple company names. Chase says they are computer programs hunting for valid account numbers. When Chase sees these charges, they automatically place a hold on your account and deny any additional charges after it occurs.

This has become a real pain in my but since I’m doing a lot of purchasing of parts for the boat. It is especially embarrassing when your engine part supplier calls you and tells you that your credit card was denied and you have to call your sail maker and give him a different card number.

Has anyone else experience this type of thing with their credit cards?

How embarassing! I have not had such a thing happen, but I distrust the security of the internet regarding financial transactions. For this reason I have one dedicated credit card with a low $1000 limit which I reserve for exclusive 'net use.

Twice in six months is rediculous...and it only happens with my Chase card. I typically use American Express, but most services like sail makers don't accept AmEx.
