So far, its a new toilet, stereo, LCD tv, and new covers for everything. Alright, I admit, I have only just bought Blue Lady, but I want her (please read both boat and she who must be obeyed) to have only the best whilst Blue Lady is a fresh canvas.

Must admit though, the admiral stumbled on a great trimmer who is doing the covers, bimini and dodger at a fantastic price. But in a year or so I will take credit for it .

I just happen to be in Gothenburg, Sweden on a business trip and the nearby firm of Viking Yachting just happen to be holding a "Midnight Sale" tonight so I am going out there after work to see if I can pick up a bargain to further adorn NAUSIKAA.

My birthday present is going to be re-gifted to the boat, ie new wind generator.

I am giving to the boat S/Y Thetis half of an AIS SIMRAD AI50 Class B Transceiver disguised as gift to my wife. She is also giving the boat the other half disguised as a gift to me. We hope that this will not only enchase our safety but will go a long way in reducing the fear of "Large Ships" from which both of suffer. Alice is particularly afraid of rusted Large Ships.

The news is that I bought nothing. The best deals were on fridges and heating systems (but not the one I wanted). A lot of electronics but no great savings there. I was tempted to buy an explosive rig-cutter but the thought of transporting it by air and the associated problems caused a change of heart.

So, in the end, nothing was bought but this afternoon I will be checking out another ships' swindler.

My 19yr daughter was a bargain in comparison - and she has very expensive tastes!

We just keep telling ourselves its an investment

(taking the exciting step of leaving the diesel age - I still feel quite alone of doing this on a 32ft boat - and stepping into the world of electric engines. More on this later elswhere in this forum!)

Now its done. I bought a new VHF. NAUSIKAA has a wonderful, old, bullet-proof, Sailor VHF but it is not GMDSS complient so I managed to get a new, watertight, Cobra VHF which I intend to mount in a lockable box built into the cockpit.

The new VHF is not bigger than a box of tea-bags and weights almost a slittle. In passive mode, it draws only 0.3 amps.

The old Sailor will not be sent to a watery grave though. It is a far too good piece of kit for that. It will retain its place in the cabin together with the Sailor R109 receiver I bought a year ago. This all adds quite a bit of weight but I figure that if I work hard at it I should be able to reduce my own weight to compensate.

I hope all you boats out there get some great pressies. Uwe is REALLY lashing out on AQUARIA - lucky boat. I am very interested to hear more of about the "electrification" . The motor he is going to install is made in Gothenburg and is one which I have been pondering over for quite some time - but I will let Uwe tell us more about that.

Well, I'd say the old girl is doing pretty well on her share of the holiday take

I splashed out! Í was in Sweden last week and the chandlers in Gothenburg were having a pre-Christmas sale so, not only did I get a new VHF but I picked up a chart plotter too at less than half price.

Nothing like splashing out on the old boat.
